Summary
In my studio1 class, I have done a lot of progression in my Technical art and VFX skill. When I meet the problems in this project, I try different ways to solve these problems and look for different solution. Especially, I have do a lot of research in the using of niagarm in the Unreal5.
Backstory
During the Fall quarter, I have to design the Daw pack based on Niagara VFX system and blueprint function in Unreal5 for my Game Studio 1 class. The studio 1 class is really an important step for me. I have to choose one of my most interested area of game.
Work Step By Step
This is what the fire effect looked like when I first made it. When I look at it now, I think it looks really unreal. Because the fire just shows a small piece of smoke. But I really like how the fire ring explodes. After first blocking out, I really spent a lot of time improving the shape of fire and how it birthed.


I really like the Fulu effect in the Niagara system. I think it is really a good way to show the Taoist culture. On the other hand, it is also a good way to show the birth of fire. But it still needs progress. And here is also the first blocking out of water effect. It looks really terrible, and it is a big challenge for me to show the fluid.
Fulu are Taoist magic symbols and incantation. The strokes of Fulu are irregular, similar to Chinese characters and usually lengthen existing words and add meaningful symbol. In Taoist culture, people think Fulu is the One-time tool to cast Spells.


Resolution
For me, the blueprint part is not too difficult for this project, and the programming just needs to make sure the character can release spells. I use line tracing to make characters use skills where they want.

It looks a little bit better than the first blockout, but the problem still appears, and it looks really fake in the scene. And there is no light, and the fire looks like small hair.


The problem of water effect is its textue and it doesn’t have good preseting. So, in that period, I spent a lot of time in figuring out how this skill looks like and how improve its texture.

There are too many excellent tutorial in the internet about Unreal5. When we meet the problems, we should watch these tutorial or no give up.
